Local Cremation Services

Some people prefer to have the entire funeral service conducted at the crematorium, while others would rather have a service elsewhere either before or after the cremation.

We can work with you to design a cremation funeral service that best suits your needs and wishes, whatever they may be.

Where are the local crematoriums?

There are four crematoriums that we commonly use when arranging cremation funerals. These facilities are located in The New Forest, Test Valley, Bournemouth and Southampton. The length of a cremation service at a crematorium is usually fixed, and the available time can vary depending on the location you choose.

If you are planning to hold the full funeral service at the crematorium, it can also be helpful to consider the number of guests who may attend, as this can influence the choice of venue and the most suitable booking time.

Our aim is to provide a caring, personal service that helps families feel supported during a difficult time. A cremation funeral can be arranged as a celebration of life, allowing family and friends to come together to remember and honour someone special.

Our experienced funeral team will guide you through every step of the planning process, offering clear advice, compassion and careful attention to detail. By working closely with you and your family, we help create a service that is both personal and fitting, ensuring a dignified tribute to your loved one.

Arranging a Cremation Funeral

Whether you are ready to arrange a cremation funeral or simply have questions about the process, our experienced team at James Keen Independent Funeral Directors is here to support you. From our office, we provide caring guidance and professional assistance to families throughout the local area, ensuring help is always available when you need it most.

After the cremation has taken place, you may wish to consider the most appropriate way to lay your loved one’s ashes to rest. Many crematoriums allow ashes to be scattered within their remembrance gardens, although the specific arrangements can vary between locations.

Some families choose to scatter ashes in a place that held special meaning, such as by the sea. In these situations, a biodegradable paper urn or ash pillow can be a thoughtful option. These are designed to float briefly on the water before gently sinking and naturally breaking down over time.

Another possibility is the interment of ashes in a churchyard or a local authority cemetery. For this option, we can provide a traditional oak ashes casket, which can be fitted with a personalised brass nameplate if required.

If you are considering scattering ashes, we can talk you through the practical considerations and available options. We also offer a selection of scatter tubes designed to make the process simple and dignified.

Some families also prefer to keep a small portion of their loved one’s ashes as a lasting keepsake after the remainder has been scattered or interred. If this is something you would like to consider, we can provide a range of keepsake urns designed especially for this purpose.

James was kind, thoughtful and respectful. He gently guided us through the entire process with patience. This entire experience was a first for us and at one of the saddest and most traumatic times we felt as supported as possible. Natascha

Extremely kind & considerate. Very professional. I felt supported throughout a very difficult process. Jane was fantastic, sensitive and caring and made me feel that she truly understood and cared about us all.

Jill

I’ve never lost a parent and didn’t have a clue what I should be doing - James made us feel very relaxed, made sure that our mum would be well looked after with him which gave us comfort. The celebrant he chose was absolutely brilliant and really made the whole experience extremely personal to us. James even sourced out a Leopard print coffin for us - the first in 22 years apparently! Would really recommend
